13 January, 2011: The e Worldwide Group (e WWG) launched the Global Cyber Ambassadors for Peace (GCAP) Programme in East London at the Norlington School for Boys. The Global Ambassadors for Peace initiative was developed by e WWG and endorsed by UNESCO. They have now joined hands to launch this initiative globally. The initial pilot for the programme is being launched in the United Kingdom in a school introduced to Dr. Salma Abbasi (Chairperson & CEO, e WWG) during a ‘seeing is believing’ tour organised by MOSAIC, a Prince of Wales initiative designed to help support Muslims, to focus on building a culture of peace, harmony and to create a sustainable network for social cohesion. This initiative will create and connect young Ambassadors from all around the world - initially in schools and universities, helping today’s digital natives create a more caring and inclusive society. |

Guya Persaud, Deputy Head Teacher of Norlington School for Boys, and the UK Schools Lead for the Global Ambassadors for Peace Programme commented: “Today’s children are living in a complex digital society and here at Norlington we’re all excited about promoting peace, co-existence and co-operation in new and innovative ways, along with other partners and Ambassadors in other countries.”
Dr. Abbasi emphasised the importance to build bridges for dialogue in the digital world so that young people can safely and securely engage and interact with the virtual world.

Launched in a racially diverse and deprived area within London which will be hosting next year’s Olympics, the GCAP initiative is positioned to create cohesion and harmony within communities as well as between them. The network will be initially created amongst schools and universities in four pilot countries; UK, Pakistan, Afghanistan and UAE. This will facilitate and encourage youth-led discussions on peace, harmony and mutual co-operation, as well as acting as a knowledge portal and support framework for the Peace Ambassadors in each country.
