The world’s first
Global Cyber Ambassadors for Peace (GCAP) have now mobilised into action. Launched in
January, 2011, London based, ‘Norlington School for Boys’, is leading this initiative. We have now added the ‘Leytonstone Business & Enterprise Specialist School’ to the GCAP network. This dynamic group of students has been engaged by e Worldwide Group (e WWG) in a series of round table discussions to explore and understand the experiences from the cyber world.
The students have subsequently conducted over 300 surveys across their schools. The results have been analysed and synthesised through several brainstorming sessions to develop recommendations on possible actions to be led by Government, Community, Business and Students to promote a culture of peace, respect, harmony, safety and security for the young ‘Digital Citizens’ around the world.
The GCAPs have now created awareness presentations, posters and ‘role play’ videos’ to be shared on the UNESCO (PPN) and e WWG websites. The ultimate goal for this purely ‘youth led’ initiative is to create a bridge of trust across nations. However, practically they will create a series of ‘living’ guidebooks and tool kits that express their shared views:
- Code of Conduct: Safety and Security
- Code of Conduct: Ethics
- Code of Conduct: Understanding and Respect
- Code of Conduct: Peace and Harmony
Additionally the GCAPs will also conduct regular surveys to capture the ever changing experiences of the young digital citizens. Furthermore, they are also developing a media and communications campaign to spread their ‘information and message’ not only across the UK, but across the world as they expand their network into other countries.
In order to help shed light on how to solve some of the issues faced by students in the UK today, they plan to submit their recommendations to Westminster and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). .
